Summer 2006

A lot has happened since last blog entry. This post tries to be some kind of update of my current life situation. The sections are not in any particular order.

1. University
The last spring was my best university term so far, I passed all the courses I’d applied. The grades could have been a little bit better but I’m satisfied anyway. At the moment I’ve got 115/300 credits. The next year will be more challenging though, bringing some of the most difficult and toilsome courses of the degree.

2. Livelyhood
Seems like I didn’t get too much earnings in this summer which make some things harder. Luckily I have some savings in pocket. However, no work but lots of free time and that has great benefits too.

3. Paprika
About 100 days ago Paprika got released. It has worked nicely and recently we launched the first version of Players section which although is lacking some features. At the beginning we were a bit disappointed about the reaction because not many people seemed to be (sincerely) interested at all. But on the other hand it’s understandable because there really wasn’t anything cool for the visitors. But you are expecting some positive response after working hard.

4. New apartment
I will move to a new apartment during the next 48 hours so it’s a bit muzzy situation here now. All the package and furniture all over the place. The primary reason for moving is because my room mate’s (Carju) leaving together with his forthcoming (wrong word?) wife. All this was planned when we rented the current apartment.

I’ve had great time living here and something to remember with pleasure in the future. While residing here we have gone together in for some sport, cooking and board-gaming. But by far more than nothing else we have talked about the issues of life around the kitchen table. Dozens times we have ruined our sleeps with 6-10 hours talking sessions at night. Some people you get along with and Carju is one of them for me. All the respects.

The new apartment will locate next to the university, actually it’s on the university, on the roof of the university and thereby way to school won’t be too long (5-20 meters depending on how you count it) and that I like. It’s 34m^2 one-room flat and I’ll be living there alone. Entirely alone first time in my life. But that’s fully fine.

5. TV
A big football competition is going in Germany (I guess this wasn’t the first time you heard about it). Tour de France, the most interesting annual sport event, starts in a few days. And those are happenings I would like to be spectatoring. One month TV-licence costs 17 euros and besides that I need a television set. I’m not sure yet but I might be trying to find a TV. Why this is worth writing is the fact I haven’t really watched TV for almost 4 years now. You need to dispense with something in order to gain more time for things you value more (Paprika, Irc).

6. mr meeting
In May mr visited me for a couple of days. Was it like tenth time or something so that isn’t anything remarkable in the community but I decided to drop a few lines. We did our regular actions: nerding to teh max, walking and eating well. All the things we share devotion together with. The best periods of one’s life.

7. Cycling
During the last weeks I’ve broken a few personal cycling records. First me and px travelled to Åland for a cycling trip. In 6 days we cycled 601km which surprised ourselves as well, we had planned to cycle more like 50km per day. We were collecting the municipality pictures there and sightseeing the odd autonomous island of Finland. I’m writing a huge report of the trip so I won’t get to the details right now. The report will be in Finnish but maybe I’ll write a little summary later in English and of course there are always pictures.

The other record was cycled two days ago. Before that my longest (practically) continuous ride was 177km from last summer which beat px’s old 155km record. px’s current record is 211km (driven after my 177km) which has been irritating (without any real negative feelings) me since he cycled it and I wanted to beat it. So I beat it.

260.39km in 11h32mins at average speed 22.56km/h. Average hearth rate was 139. Max speed 61.06km/h. Route: Haukipudas - Ii - Yli-ii - Kipinä - Ylikiiminki - Muhos - Oulu - Pyykösjärvi. I’m satisfied and now the turn is again back to px.
